Awesome Garden District Tour
Our group decided to sign up for a Garden District walking tour. The first fun part was riding the Trolley from our hotel down St. Charles Avenue to the Garden District. We then met our tour guide at the book store aka the Skating Rink for the 1884 World’s Fair. She started off our adventure with a short recounting of early history of New Orleans and in that context, what did the Garden District represent.
Then we were off to Lafayette Cemetery. In the first 20 minutes between the early history of New Orleans and the cultural context of the cemetery practices; I learned more about NOLA then my previous 40 years of life.
After the cemetery, we strolled along several blocks of houses and Ina gave us history, local color and celebrity ownership/interest.
Finally as we made the turn to head back to the starting point, she pointed out a Poboy lunch counter on Magazine Street that she recommended. Our group made our way back to the Poboy lunch counter and had a great quick bite.
This was the best historical tour that I have ever taken.
