Haunted French Quarter tour: two thumbs-up!
“My partner and I just returned from our first trip to New Orleans. On our second day there
(giving ourselves the first day to settle in and rest up), we knew we wanted to take a walking tour of the French Quarter in order to learn more about the history of the place. Since we’re both interested in ghost stories and the like, we thought a haunted tour would be fun, too. The Historic New Orleans walking tour came highly recommended on this site and in Frommers for its accent on history over schlocky thrills. That assessment is 100% correct: the tour was informative, spooky, fun, and well-paced. Our tour guide (whose name I’ve forgotten) was a long-time NOLA resident and former Tulane professor with a wonderful storytelling ability, historical knowledge, and obvious love of the area. All of this made for a great walking tour. Along the way we passed many other haunted tours–many of which seemed very hokey (tour guides dressed like quasi-vampires and, my fave, talking in fake British accents(!)). The Historic New Orleans Walking Tour had none of that: just a fun and fact-filled stroll through the lovely French Quarter, with plenty of stories and stops that will give you goosebumps. We booked the tour online with no problem, and the overall experience was very well organized and fun. Highly recommended!”
