Fabulous! The tour books were right!
“We went on the 2-hour walking tour of the Garden District on the Sunday after Christmas. Our tour guide, Dave, is a NOLA native, and boy can you tell. He knows SO much about the history of the area. He was engaging and funny, and I felt like we learned an incredible amount in that short time. This was one of the best parts of our trip. The tour started in the cemetery, which is really beautiful in a creepy kind of way. The website said we might not be able to go inside on Sundays, but the gates were wide open, and several tour groups were going through. The tour books also warn about safety in the cemeteries, but we felt very safe with our group. Things to know: the only bathroom at the tour meeting place (The Rink/Garden District Book Shop) is easy to find and very pleasant, but it has only one toilet and it’s for both men and women, so be ready for a line. Also be ready to stand for a long time at the St. Charles streetcar stop on the way back to the Quarter. We went on a tour by another company in the FQ–wish we had gone with a Historic New Orleans tours there, too.”
